DEWORMING

By: R.F. Lewis

If you acquire a horse that looks like he might be carrying a high parasite load, talk to your Vet about the best way to safely deworm him and bring him back to health. Horses with extremely high parasite loads are at risk for becoming ill after deworming due to toxins released by dying parasites.

Effective deworming comes down to using the most apporpriate product for your horse, at the appropriate time, and in the correct dosage.

How to tell if your horse might have worms!

Does he look pot bellied? Does he look under weight? Is he hungry all the time? Does he have a scrruffy coat? Does he often rub his neck and butt?  If you answered yes to any of these question's,

Chances are he may have worms.

Deworming strategies should be adjusted throughout a horse's life. Younger horse's may have specific requirements.
